During an inspection looking at part of the service

A routine inspection took place in March 2013 which identified patients were not protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had not been followed by the practice. These concerns were judged to have had a minor impact on people who used the service.

The provider sent us an action plan detailing how they would work to improve this. At this inspection we reviewed the progress the provider had made in taking action to ensure compliance in the area of concern. We found that the provider had taken appropriate measures to achieve compliance.

During a routine inspection

On the day of our visit the practice was not seeing patients and thus we could not interview patients directly. It was also pointed out to us that the practice had not done a patient satisfaction survey and that a suggestion box was not available for patients. However, we found many thank you cards on display which were very complimentary about the practice and the treatment provided. One card said 'Thank you so much for being so kind to our daughter - you are lovely people - thank you" and another said "Thank you for making the last 18 months such fun!! Oh, and my teeth are lovely too".

The practice was friendly, welcoming and informative. The surgery was clean throughout and we found the staff to be very caring and friendly. There was a plentiful supply of patient leaflets in the practice explaining treatment options and other relevant information.

We found that all patients were given sufficient information to give an informed consent, and that the practice appeared very clean and comfortable. Robust Infection control procedures were not in place.

During a routine inspection

People spoke highly of the service provided at The Brace Place Havant. They told us staff were always friendly and helpful. They were provided with verbal and written information about the various treatments, including the costs. This meant that they were able to make informed decisions about their treatment plans.
