Person-centred Care
We scored the service as 3. The evidence showed a good standard. The service made sure patients were at the centre of their care and treatment choices and they decided, in partnership with patients, how to respond to any relevant changes in people’s needs.
Staff within the service based patient care around individual needs and preferences. Staff empowered patients to make their own decisions about their care and treatment.
The service ensured patients were at the centre of their care and treatment, and staff adapted support in response to each person’s changing needs and preferences. Staff involved patients directly in conversations about their care. Staff were person-centred throughout the surgical consultation process, looking holistically at patients lives when discussing treatment options.
Care provision, Integration and continuity
We scored the service as 3. The evidence showed a good standard. The service understood the diverse health and care needs of patients and their local communities, so care was joined-up, flexible and supported choice and continuity.

Staff in outpatients worked with others in the wider system and with local organisations to plan care when required. Staff contacted GPs where necessary if patients missed appointments or were not appropriate for surgery.
Providing Information
We scored the service as 3. The evidence showed a good standard. The service supplied appropriate, accurate and up-to-date information in formats that were tailored to individual needs.
Please refer to the surgery section in the report for this location for the main details about this quality statement.
Patients received clear, accessible information to help them understand their care, treatment and surgery. During consultations the service provided patients with procedure specific information booklets, which explained what to expect before and after surgery. These supported patients to prepare for their admission, understand their recovery, and make informed decisions about their care.
Listening to and involving people
Equity in access
Equity in experiences and outcomes
We scored the service as 3. The evidence showed a good standard. Staff and leaders actively listened to information about patients who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this.
Please refer to the surgery section in the report for this location for the main details about this quality statement.
Staff considered whether patients met the clear acceptance criteria for people undergoing surgery during the consultations process. All patients were assessed against established clinical and operational requirements prior to acceptance for treatment. This helped ensure decisions about access were based on individual need and safety and reduced the risk of inequitable decision making.
