During an inspection looking at part of the service

We did not speak to people using the service as part of this follow up inspection. The views of people using the service were obtained during our last inspection which was undertaken on 25th November 2013.

We reviewed the records of two people who use the service as part of this follow up inspection. The records were selected randomly for people receiving the regulated activity 'personal care'. Overall, files viewed contained evidence that people's needs had been assessed and kept under review.

25 November 2013

During a routine inspection

During this review we visited Broomfields Sheltered Housing. We spoke with the registered manager, a scheme coordinator; two care staff and five people who receive support from the agency.

People spoken with who used the service confirmed that they were treated with respect and their dignity was maintained. People also told us that they were satisfied with the standard of care provided and were of the opinion that staff understood their needs.

Comments received included: 'The service is reliable'; 'I can't think of any complaints. The staff are absolutely marvellous'; 'I doubt I'd be here today if it was not for the way I've been cared for. The carers are smashing' and 'I've always been treated respectfully and the carers have never let me down. The support I receive is invaluable.'

Systems were in place to offer protection to the people who use the service from abuse and people spoken with confirmed that they felt safe and had no concerns regarding the care provided. No concerns, complaints or allegations were received from the people using the service during the visit.

During a routine inspection

People using the service at Broomfields confirmed that they were treated with respect and their dignity was maintained. People also told us that they were satisfied with the standard of care provided and were of the opinion that staff understood their needs.

For example, comments included: 'The carers are fantastic. I am always treated nicely'; 'I am most definitely well cared for'; 'The service and staff are reliable and I can depend on them' and 'The staff are very nice. I couldn't wish for better people to look after me.'

Systems were in place to offer protection to the people who use the service from abuse and people spoken with confirmed that they felt safe and had no concerns regarding the care provided. No concerns, complaints or allegations were received from the people using the service during the visit.

People spoken with confirmed they had confidence in the staff that provided care and that there were sufficient staff on duty. Comments received included: 'I have no issues with the staffing arrangements. Staff are always available when I need help throughout the day' and 'The carers are great. They are a good back-up and help me to live in my flat. I enjoy living at Broomfields'.

People who use the service confirmed they or their representatives were asked for their views about their care and support and confirmed they were acted on.

During a routine inspection

People using the service at Broomfields confirmed that they were treated with respect and their dignity was maintained. People also told us that they were satisfied with the standard of care provided and were of the opinion that staff understood their needs.

For example, comments included: It's the best place I've been in. They are all good girls [staff]. They have looked after me'; 'Staff help me with various tasks and stay the correct length of time. They [staff] do very well' and 'I have peace of mind now that I am here. The staff are very supportive and help me to maintain my independence as much as possible.'

Systems were in place to offer protection to the people who use the service from abuse and people spoken with confirmed that they felt safe and had no concerns regarding the care provided. No concerns, complaints or allegations were received from the people using the service during the visit.

People spoken with confirmed they had confidence in the staff who provided care and support and no issues of concern were raised by the people using the service. Comments received included: 'The staff always knock on my door before entering my flat'; 'The care staff are courteous and generally treat me very well' and 'Staff are very good and sympathetic'.
