During an assessment under our new approach
Dates of assessment: 1 September 2026 to 7 September 2026. The assessment was carried out to provide a first rating of the service under the new provider. We visited the service on 1, 2 and 7 September. Clayton House is a service providing personal care for up to 60 people, some of whom are living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 41 people living at the service, 3 of whom were receiving care in hospital.
People received safe, effective and person-centred care from a staff team who were kind and caring. Staff knew people well, understood their preferences and risks, and supported them to maintain their independence, make choices and remain involved in meaningful activities.
People were protected from avoidable harm through effective safeguarding arrangements, robust risk management and a culture of learning and improvement. There were enough suitably skilled staff to meet people’s needs safely. Medicines were managed safely, and the service was clean. The provider had significantly improved the environment, and communal areas were decorated to a high standard, providing homely spaces which suited the needs of people. Further environmental improvements were planned.
People benefited from coordinated, responsive care that promoted their health, wellbeing and quality of life. Staff worked effectively with healthcare professionals to ensure people received timely support and treatment. Care was delivered in line with the principles of the Mental Capacity Act. Staff responded appropriately when people’s needs changed and supported them to make decisions about their care wherever possible.
Effective governance systems identified areas for development and drove continuous improvement. The provider and registered manager maintained robust oversight and had developed a positive and open culture. Feedback from people, relatives and staff reflected confidence in the leadership team and highlighted a service committed to delivering high quality, compassionate care.
