During a routine inspection

Medics UK is designed to provide first aid cover for organised sporting activities such as motor sports and horse-riding events. Therefore people are seen if they sustain an injury or have an accident whilst engaged in the activity. The first aid service is predominantly used for weekend events so when we visited, no paramedic staff were on site. The nature of the service meant that unless we visited an event the service covered we were unable to meet the people who used the service and it could not be expected that people would always need Medics UK staff to see them.

We talked with the manager who was on duty and the director about the service and how it was operated. We shared with them that under the revision of registration requirements first aid services being provided to cover sporting events, concerts and fayres no longer need to be registered with the Care Quality Commission. However the director had found that the tenders they bid for required providers to be registered with us and without this registration Medics UK could not continue to operate.

We reviewed the records the service kept in respect of the care being provided; staff and equipment and found all was well-maintained. The manager had ensured that vehicles were maintained in line with guidance associated with the operation of ambulances and all staff followed appropriate cleaning schedules. She also made sure that the vehicles were stocked with all the equipment their paramedics would need.
