All Inspections

8 February 2013

During a routine inspection

People who used the service including children and their parents, told us they were very happy using the special care dental clinic and they said staff looked after them well. People who had received anesthetic told us the staff kept them fully informed about their treatment, and one person's appointment took place to ensure they were familiar with the procedure and equipment. People told us the staff respected their privacy and dignity and staff were very friendly. People told us the staff wore appropriate clothing and equipment including gloves and masks when they provided treatment, and they felt the treatment environment was sufficiently clean.

We found people were involved in their treatment and they were able to state their preferences and make choices. People received an assessment of their needs, from which treatment plans were devised. People's medical histories were sought to ensure they received treatment safely and staff were trained to deal with emergencies.

We found staff knew about abuse and how to report and concerns, and the provider had a safeguarding lead in place to support this. Infection control procedures ensured there was a reduced risk of the spread of infection including decontamination, audits and equipment checks. Staff were adequately supported through induction, training, supervision, team meetings and appraisals. The provider maintained appropriate records to ensure people received treatment that met their needs.
