All Inspections

4 October 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of the inspection, the agency was providing a service for 28 people in their own homes.

We looked at care plans for four people and visited these people in their homes. We also spoke with three people by telephone. All the people we spoke with told us how good the service was. One person said the care provided was "excellent" and that the "carers make you feel safe". Another person said they "would always recommend them" and that the carers were "very reliable".

We also spoke with three staff members about their experience of providing care at the agency. One staff member said that the staff were "well trained and ethical" and that they were "able to develop good working relationships with the people who used the service".

We found that before people received any care or treatment, they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes.

We found that people's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

There were effective recruitment and selection processes in place and appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work.

The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others.

People were made aware of the complaints system and this was provided in a format that met their needs.

During a themed inspection looking at Domiciliary Care Services

We carried out a themed inspection looking at domiciliary care services. We asked people to tell us what it was like to receive services from this home care agency as part of a targeted inspection programme of domiciliary care agencies.

The inspection team was led by a CQC inspector joined by an Expert by Experience, who has experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of service.

We used telephone interviews and home visits to people who used the service and to their main carers (a relative or friends).

People told us that they were happy with the care workers who visited and supported them. During our home visits one person told us 'I am very happy with the way things are arranged, I used to have another company but these people are really good.' Another person told us 'I am really impressed that the provider and manager get involved, they know everything I need and I have no complaints.' One person's partner told us 'The care and support from the agency has actually improved my partners health and made things less stressful for me.'
