Person-centred Care
The service was exceptional at making sure people were at the centre of their care and treatment choices and they decided, in partnership with people, how to respond to any relevant changes in people’s needs. People received fair and equal care and treatment. The service worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training, feedback, and linking in with charities in the area to offer the service for free or at reduced charge for those facing financial hardship
Patients were supported to understand their condition and were involved in planning for their care needs. Patients were involved in decisions about their care. The service provided a screen so that patients could view the procedure taking place, showing the inside of the ear that was being suctioned and what was being removed.
Care provision, Integration and continuity
The service understood the diverse health and care needs of people and their local communities, so care was joined-up, flexible and supported choice and continuity. If patients required further support following treatment, then they would be advised of this during the appointment and told when to come back for further treatment. If it was identified that they required further treatment that could not be provided at the service then they would be referred on to an appropriate service.
Providing Information
The service was exceptional at developing appropriate, accurate and up-to-date information in formats that were tailored to individual needs.
Information and forms were translated into a range of languages as needed to meet the needs of the local population. The service met the accessible information standard.
Listening to and involving people
The service made it easy for people to share feedback and ideas, or raise complaints about their care, treatment and support. They involved people in decisions about their care and told them what had changed as a result.
We saw complaints were managed in line with the providers policy. Learning from complaints was evident and staff were able to identify changes made as a result of patient feedback, including complaints.
The provider showed us evidence of feedback. There was a high level of compliments and over 100 positive feedback forms.
Staff were able to provide feedback and felt that feedback would be listened to and discussed and any appropriate changes put in place following discussions.
Equity in access
The service made sure that people could access the care, support and treatment they needed when they needed it.
The service was able to offer appointments at different times to meet the needs of the local community and offered appointments at weekends and evenings.
All areas are located on the ground floor which made access easy for all users. All patients received the same level of care and were treated with equitable dignity and respect.
Equity in experiences and outcomes
Staff and leaders were innovative in how they listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes. The provider actively used this information to provide exceptionally tailored care, support and treatment in response to this.
