During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit on 01 August 2013, Brooks Care and Nursing Services were only active in the regulated activity of Personal Care.

We found that staff had been well trained and saw that they had a good understanding of people's individual needs. People were treated respectfully, their individuality and diversity understood.

We spoke with people who used the service and their relatives; they told us that they were happy with the level of care received from Brooks Care and Nursing Services Limited. One person told us, "The carers are excellent." Another person told us, "The carers are great, they are friendly and flexible with times when we need them to be."

We found the provider worked closely with other professionals to ensure people who used the service received their planned care and treatment.

We saw that staff were trained appropriately in medication and people were protected against the risks associated with medicines because the provider had appropriate arrangements in place to manage medicines.

We found staff to have appropriate training to enable them to have the skills to carry out their job role in a safe and effective way.

During a routine inspection

People we spoke with confirmed they had been involved in the assessment process and their care needs had been discussed with them. They had also been involved in the decision on how they wanted their care provided. They told us that the carers telephoned them if they were going to be late. People said that the carers were professional in their manner and that they felt treated with dignity and respect. People using the service told us that they felt well treated and that they were happy with the service's staff. People said they knew how to complain but that they had not needed to make any complaints. People were confident that service management listened and acted on peoples views about how they wanted their support provided.

Comments we received included 'I have regular carers and they are smashing', 'I am totally satisfied with the carers', 'The staff are very kind' and 'The staff are all pretty good, we get regular carers and they will ring if they are running late', 'I am very satisfied with the carers'. 'I know how to contact the service and often ask for advice which they give'. 'The carers ask if there's anything more they can do for me before they leave'.
