There should be enough members of staff to keep people safe and meet their health and welfare needs (outcome 13)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are safe and their health and welfare needs are met by sufficient numbers of appropriate staff.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 30 January 2014, observed how people were being cared for and talked with people who use the service. We talked with staff.

Our judgement

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

Reasons for our judgement

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

Patients using the service told us there were enough staff to meet their needs. They told us "The staff are as nice as they can be" and "Staff are lovely".

We saw that there were adequate staff working in the practice to meet people's needs.

The practice had two part time dentists, two practice nurses, a registered manager and receptionist. There was also a cleaner that came in each evening.

The staff had suitable qualifications, were engaged in continuous professional development and had Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.

They received induction and on-going training that included safeguarding, decontamination, crisis management, resuscitation and infection control.
