Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 29 April 2026

Date of assessment: 28 April 2026

This assessment was undertaken due to the length of time since our last visit to the service. Austin Place is an extra-care housing service where people live independently in their own apartments, but have access to an on-site care service. At the time of our assessment, the service was providing care to 5 people, of whom 3 received the regulated activity of personal care.

The service used existing quality assurance processes both at location level and provider level. However, they did not always identify areas that required action. This included 2 people’s care plans which would have benefitted from more detail for staff. Despite this, people’s documentation was comprehensive and included relevant information about the person and their care needs.

Staff were happy working at the service and said they were supported. They received on-going training and development opportunities through spot checks, supervisions and team meetings. They understood how to recognise potential signs of abuse and the need to obtain consent from people prior to providing care.

There were sufficient staff to meet people’s needs and staff were provided with enough personal protective equipment as well as robust medicines training to ensure the care they provided was safe and following good practices.

Staff recognised people’s diversity and ensured they gave them choice and encouraged independence. The registered manager led by example as they covered care calls as well as mentoring new and existing staff.

People said staff were caring and that their time keeping was good. People said on the whole staff knew them as an individual and knew that they liked to be independent where they could.

People said management was good and both staff and the registered manager were open and approachable. They told us they would have no concerns raising a complaint, or speaking up, but they had not had a need to so far.

People were involved in developing their care plan and they said they generally saw the same staff all of the time. They told us the service was flexible and adaptive to their needs.

People were encouraged to give their feedback to support learning and improvement.
