All Inspections

19 November 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with two people who used the service, the team leader and four members of staff. We were told by people who had used the service that it was well led and responsive to their needs. We were told 'the service is well organised and thought through'. We heard that the support provided was individualised to meet people's needs. One person told us "I have a program arranged to meet my needs, which is reviewed and changed if needed".

We saw that the service was effective because people were consulted and informed consent was obtained before any treatment was provided. People told us 'I made a choice to come here and the staff fully explained the treatments available' and 'I was happy to come here and get help'. People told us that during the beginning of their treatment the support from the staff team was 'brilliant' and 'I felt really supported and that they cared about me'.

People talked about the importance of the continued support available to them. We were told 'I was really impressed with the aftercare' and 'the group therapy is well organised and not patronising'.

We were able to see that documentation maintained on behalf of people was stored safely with their consent. People confirmed they understood they could make a complaint but we heard 'the staff are very approachable any issues are dealt with as they arise'.

We found people were provided with information and equipment that safeguarded them against the risk of infection.

18 March 2013

During a routine inspection

We visited the Taunton Office at Unity House for Turning Point Somerset and spoke with four people who were happy to speak with us. They all told us they were very happy with the support they had received from Turning Point Somerset, Unity House. One person told us, 'Fantastic really, they have helped me, they listen to me and I feel safe here'. Another person told us, 'I am very happy with the support I have had, they listen to you and set things around what you need'.

We were told staff treated people who used the service with respect and dignity. We observed staff speak with people in a respectful manner and listen to their opinions and comments.

We found that care planning was person centred and agreed with the individual. Regular reviews were carried out and involved the individual at every stage.

Staff confirmed they were given the opportunity to build on their skills and received appropriate support from the registered manager and team leader.

The provider had quality assurance systems in place that ensured people were safe and changes could be made to improve the service provided.
