During an assessment under our new approach
Date of assessment: 3 November to 2 December 2025. Oldham House is a nursing home registered to support up to 30 people, many of whom have dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 29 people living at the service. The assessment included 2 on site visits, with additional information and evidence reviewed remotely. This is the first rating for this service. This assessment was carried out to provide a rating.
People were protected from abuse and were kept safe. Risks to people’s health and welfare were understood and managed effectively to reduce the likelihood of harm. The service was well maintained and clean, with regular checks of the environment carried out to ensure it was safe. However, some improvements could be made to make it more suitable for people with dementia.
There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. The recruitment process was thorough. Staff received training and regular supervision, which helped to support their wellbeing. Medicines were managed safely. Staff who administered medicines had received training and had their competence checked annually.Care records were detailed and person-centred.
People’s health was monitored, and they were referred to appropriate healthcare professionals when advice was needed. People had enough to eat and drink, with a choice of food offered. Staff sought consent from people and decisions were made in their best interest when they did not have mental capacity. People were treated with kindness and compassion, and staff protected their privacy and dignity. People were encouraged to take part in a variety of different activities.
The registered manager was knowledgeable and experienced. Quality assurance systems in place ensured good oversight of the service. People, relatives and staff were able to provide feedback about the service. Staff told us they received good support from the registered manager.
