Kindness, compassion and dignity
Staff treated patients with kindness, respect and compassion. We observed positive interactions between staff and patients both in person and on the telephone. Staff displayed an understanding of patients’ needs and showed warmth and compassion to patients. One patient told us, “Smiles More are always friendly and professional. They genuinely make going to the dentist an enjoyable experience, which is not something you can say often. I always feel well looked after and at ease.”
Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. One patient commented, “Very impressive dentist on all levels. Everything they have done for me has lasted well and improved my oral health. They work well as a team and run everything they do past you first, showing you the issue and running through the reasons it should be done. You get choices too, and that is always helpful. For example, if they see something in its early stages that could get worse, they don’t pressurise you into getting it done straight away and explain what may happen if you don’t get it attended to.”
Patient comments included that staff were welcoming and attentive, acted with integrity, and showed compassion. One patient told us, “The admin team are very efficient and help to arrange appointments and helpfully provide reminders of the appointments. The clinical team are excellent, professional, and caring, and I always feel like I'm in good hands. The practice is spotless and well maintained, and all the staff are friendly and professional. I always feel like I'm getting an honest assessment of my dental health, and there is no upselling of any other services that I may not need.”
Patients said staff were professional, courteous, and considerate. One patient said, “An excellent practice. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who will do everything to solve any problem, as well as keeping you up to date with all the ‘ordinary’ check-ups etc. All the staff are equally caring and professional.”
Patients felt they were treated as individuals, and their personal and cultural needs were respected.
We were provided with a patient survey including 33 responses from patients. All respondents said that they would recommend that practice to friends and family, and they all felt were well looked after and got convenient and timely appointment.
People received care from staff who were aware of their responsibility to respect people’s diversity and human rights, and of the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
Staff felt respected, valued and supported in their roles, and their wellbeing was supported.
