We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 13 May 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

Infection control procedures in place were effective.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance.

Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our inspection, could access care, support and treatment when required.

Finedon Dental Surgery is in Finedon, Northamptonshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms.At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 14 staff, of which there were 5 dentists, 5 dental nurses (including 3 trainee dental nurses), 1 dental therapist, 1 dental hygienist and 2 receptionists. We gathered feedback and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 2 dentists, 1 dental nurse, 1 receptionist and an external compliance lead.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.

Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 11 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Comments included, “Staff are so friendly, always a pleasant experience even for someone who has a phobia of the dentist. Dentists are always super helpful and will support you to get the best results” and “I have been using the practice for many years, even after leaving the area. The staff are fabulous! Friendly and professional. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Thank you to everyone for taking care of my teeth over the years.”

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness. Comments included, “I've always had a positive experience at Finedon Dental Surgery. The receptionists are consistently friendly, polite, and approachable, which really helps put you at ease from the moment you arrive. The surgery itself is always clean and well-maintained, creating a comfortable and professional environment. The dentists here are excellent - professional, reassuring, and clear in their communication. I've always felt well cared for during my visits, and I truly appreciate the high standard of service from the whole team.”

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. Comments included, “Absolute fabulous service and treatment! Needed an urgent appointment, was seen on same day. Treatment delivered efficiently and advice given on further care. Would def recommend!”

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care. Comments included, “Excellent service. They take the time to talk, listen and treat, which my last dentist lacked.”

Patients told us that when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.

Patients told us that they were supported to maintain their oral health and were provided with appropriate information and resources.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
