All Inspections

7 November 2013

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out an inspection on the 7 July 2013 and found the practice did not have suitable arrangements to ensure that patients were safeguarded against the risk of abuse. The practice did not have a safeguarding policy in place and staff told us they had not received any training in this area.

Staff were able to tell us how to spot signs of abuse and were aware of how to report any concerns they had to their manager. However, staff were not aware of local authority safeguarding teams or any other external agencies to which they could refer any safeguarding concerns they may have had.

We carried out an inspection on the 7 November 2013 to ensure improvements had been made. We found that staff had received appropriate training in safeguarding vulnerable adults and children and that whistleblowing and safeguarding policies were in place.

4 July 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke to patients using the service who told us the practice was 'excellent, professional and very caring' and 'every penny is well spent, they make sure I understand everything'.

We observed staff following best practice guidelines for surgical instrument decontamination and hygiene. Staff had been trained in infection control and dealing with emergencies to protect patients from risk of harm.

We found the practice did not have suitable arrangements to ensure patients were safeguarded against the risk of abuse.

There were sufficient staff with the right knowledge, experience, qualifications and skills to support people.

Complaint information was available for patients to use if they wanted to raise a concern. We found when speaking to patients, they were aware of the complaints procedures. One patient told us they had 'no cause for concern'.
