At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating had remained good.

This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

The relative of a person who used the service told us, ‘The staff are very polite, honest and clever. They are like our family and my mother, and my children really get on well with them. Another told us, ‘My staff are good, but sometimes they send different staff I don’t know’.

Treating people as individuals

The provider did not always treat people as individuals or make sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They did not always take account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

People using the service told us they liked that the staff spoke their native language however, one told us how sad they were about Christmas, nothing had been planned for the service user.

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

People who used the service told us their staff supported them to carry out their daily chores as well as reminding them to take medication.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress.

People who use the service and their relatives told us the staff understood them and made sure the people who use the service were comfortable and were able to communicate their needs in their native language.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care.

The provider told us how they recognised their staff for good work by nominating a staff of the month and highlighting this on PASS and on the WhatsApp team chat.

Staff were given shifts that fit in with their family life, were near to their homes for transport ease and were able to take time off to support their wellbeing.
