All Inspections

30 October 2013

During an inspection in response to concerns

We carried out this responsive inspection as the result of whistleblowing concerns that had been raised with us. These concerns related to the cleanliness of the vehicles, maintenance of them and staff qualifications.

We did not seek views of people using the service as the concerns had not been raised by anyone who had been transported in the vehicles.

We looked at each vehicle and found sufficient supplies of antiseptic gels and wipes to allow the ambulance crew to carry out a surface area clean after each patient transport.

We saw both the ambulance and car that were used to transport patients. We were shown the layout of the ambulance by the provider. We saw documentary evidence of equipment checks which showed that these were being carried out.

The service did not employ paramedics but did employ emergency medical technicians. We looked at the qualifications records for the two people employed in this role. There was documented evidence that each person had undergone training and had passed examinations to qualify them as ambulance technicians.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We were unable to speak to people using the service because the service transports people and we did not observe this occurring during our visit.

We found that the provider had implemented policy and procedure guidance for staff about protecting children and vulnerable adults from abuse.

The provider had recently introduced a feedback form to obtain the views of people using the service but told us they had not yet received any completed forms.

5 December 2012

During a routine inspection

We haven't been able to speak to people using the service because the service transports people and we did not observe this occurring during our visit. We attempted to gather evidence of people's experiences from the service but the provider did not seek people's views directly.

The ambulance crew told us about how they supported people. They would make sure that when they arrived at their destination that they would not leave a person until they were satisfied that the person was safe.
