All Inspections

During a routine inspection

People who used the service received appropriate care and support that met their individual needs and were treated with dignity and respect. One person who used the service told us 'I am well looked after. We all get on very well and the food is good'.

There were processes in place to protect people using services from harm. The care support workers were trained to recognise the signs of abuse and to report concerns in accordance with the service's procedures.

People were cared for and supported by suitably skilled and experienced carers.

There was an effective complaints system available.

Records kept were fit for purpose and held securely.

5 March 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three carers, but unfortunately we were not able to talk with people who use the service due to their complex needs. Carers told us that people 'are part of the family' and that they would 'knock at their door before entering their room."

People had comprehensive care plans which were reviewed annually by the local care management team and quarterly by the shared lives care support workers. People were present for these reviews, which was evidenced in the care plans viewed.

Carers received appropriate safeguarding training and demonstrated good understanding of the different types of abuse and how these had to be reported. This ensured that people could be confident that appropriate steps were taken to make them safe.

People using the service took part in the selection of new carers, with the support from a local independent advocacy project.
