During a routine inspection

Katherine Lowe House had recently gone through a consultation period and is planned for closure. Staff told us this was because it was not meeting building requirements. Residents were being moved out slowly and given time to find new homes. They were being supported in this transition with comprehensive documentation and follow up visits from staff.

There were eight people who used the service living in the home and all had been moved to ground floor.

Katherine Lowe house was inviting, warm, clean and tidy. There was appropriate music playing on the radio. There were two lounges on the ground floor with a dining area in each. Staff told us that people who used the service were able to make use of the small kitchen area in the lounge. There was an outside, accessible secure garden with seating and an under cover area for people to sit.

A smoking room was available for people who used the service with adequate ventilation. We saw advice on health and safety on display in the smoking room. Staff told us that the door was kept closed when in use.

One person who used the service told us they were "very happy and staff are lovely, the manager is fantastic"

Another person said it was a "good home" and "staff looked after him"

One staff member told us that they "feel supported by the manager and the manager makes sure things are done. The people who use the service are cared for".
