Updated 17 October 2025
Date of assessment: 24 November 2025 to 08 December 2025. Mayflower Care Home is a residential care home providing accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care. Mayflower Care Home is run by 2 companies, as a dual registration, and both are jointly responsible for the services at the home. This provider registered with CQC on 15 April 2025 and this is the first inspection of this provider. We completed this assessment after receiving concerns about risk management and safeguarding.
The service is registered to provide support to 76 older people, younger adults, people with a sensory impairment, people with a physical disability and people living with dementia. At the time of our assessment 71 people lived at the service.
We identified 4 breaches of the regulations relating to staffing, management of risk, infection control, premises and equipment, and governance.
There had been a lack of clinical and management oversight of constipation risks because systems had not been embedded to review bowel charts for people who suffered with constipation. Staff had not always received training and support to enable them to meet the assessed needs of people. The provider had failed to maintain equipment at the service which put people at risk of harm. Some areas of the service smelt of stale urine. The systems to monitor the quality and safety of the service were not always effective. When shortfalls had been identified, action had not always been taken in a timely manner to make improvements and the shortfalls continued.
Staff were recruited safely. Staff treated people with kindness and knew people well. Staff spent time with people encouraging them to participate in activities and maintain important relationships with their families and friends. Staff received welfare and support packages to support them in their lives.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
