Our current view of the service

Date of assessment: 16 April 2026 to 28 April 2026. We visited the care home on 16 and 20 April 2026. Wyndham Hall is a 60 bed nursing home in Bicester, Oxfordshire. People's rooms are located on two floors, the upper floor specialising in dementia care. We found there were many spaces people and families could use within the home for quiet time and activities. At the time of our assessment the service supported 55 people.
People were routinely treated with dignity and respect. Staff had been recruited safely and were able to support people to keep safe. Staff were trained in key areas relevant to their role within the home, for instance, nursing staff had skills in wound care.
People were supported with their prescribed medicines and referred to external healthcare professionals in a timely manner. People’s healthcare needs were met, and the home had a good relationship with external healthcare providers.
People were supported to engage in meaningful activities and maintain their role in society. There was a strong emphasis on community engagement.
The registered manager of the service was respected by people, their relatives and staff. People received personalised care and they were able to make their bedroom homely.
We highlighted some areas where the provider and registered manager could make improvements. For instance, ensuring communication was always responded to and people felt involved in discussion about their care.
People's experience of the service

We spent time speaking with people while at the service and provided a questionnaire for people to complete. We had support from two Experts by Experience who contacted relatives after the site visit to seek feedback. An Expert by Experience is a person who has knowledge and experience of using this type of service.
People and their relatives unanimously described the home as safe and secure, highlighting controlled access through coded doors and staff supervision. Comments included, “The quality of care being delivered is good” and “It is [person’s] home and they feels like it is home and [person] asks when we are going home and means this place.”
Risk management was viewed positively, particularly in relation to falls, with examples of safety reviews and adjustments such as sensor mats, lower beds, hip protectors and increased monitoring following incidents.
People and relatives described staff as kind, caring and knowledgeable, and were confident that their loved ones were living in a safe, supportive environment. Comments included, “The staff are very nice and quite caring and concerned with the family as well as the resident”, “I’m very happy with the care (they are) receiving, I can’t praise the staff enough” and “They [staff] are mainly kind and caring. They all know my relative and talk to (them) not just the care staff but the cleaners as well.”
Wyndham Hall Care Home was described as welcoming, clean, and having a friendly “vibe,” with many people appearing happy, settled, and less lonely than before moving in. While most feedback was positive, some areas for improvement were identified, particularly around communication, responsiveness to concerns, and consistency in management engagement. We have discussed this with the registered manager and provider.
