People should be treated with respect, involved in discussions about their care and treatment and able to influence how the service is run (outcome 1)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Understand the care, treatment and support choices available to them.
  • Can express their views, so far as they are able to do so, and are involved in making decisions about their care, treatment and support.
  • Have their privacy, dignity and independence respected.
  • Have their views and experiences taken into account in the way the service is provided and delivered.

How this check was done

We carried out a visit on 13 August 2014 and 19 August 2014, talked with people who use the service, talked with staff and talked with other regulators or the Department of Health. We were accompanied by a specialist advisor.

Our judgement

People's privacy, dignity and independence were respected whilst receiving dental treatment in this practice.

Reasons for our judgement

On our previous inspection we found the provider was not meeting this standard in that there was limited information available within the practice regarding dental health promotion or specific dental treatments. The provider’s practice information leaflet was unavailable for people who used the service. This meant that people who used the service did not have clear and current information about the practice and the dental treatments provided.

We carried out a responsive follow up visit and found that the provider had carried out a number of improvements to comply with the regulations these included a new practice information leaflet that was kept in the reception area and various leaflets on health promotion and dental treatments.

We spoke with one patient who told us that dentist, dental nurse were all very good, they always treated her with kindness, everything was explained to her and she was very happy with the service.

Patients could be seen in the treatment room itself or the managers office if they wished to speak in confidence at any time.
