During an inspection looking at part of the service

We inspected Munro-Hall Clinic to check if the improvements needed following our previous inspection on 04 February 2014 had been made. We found that the required improvements had been made. A new recruitment procedure had been introduced and staff recruitment now met the requirements of Schedule 3 of the regulations of the Health and Social Care Act 2008. We spoke with three staff members and they told us that their recruitment files had been updated since the last CQC inspection with a new Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service. They said they were involved and consulted about their care and treatment and the dentist always enquired if there were any changes to their medical history. People also said that before any treatment was provided an assessment of need was undertaken. One person said, 'The way the dentist explained things to me was pitched at the right level. I was able to understand. Another person said, 'The dentist explained verbally to me outlining the treatment and costs. He explained the benefits of the treatment and why he was suggesting what he was suggesting.'

We found that the environment was clean and effective systems were in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. Equipment used in the service was appropriately maintained to ensure people were not at risk from the use of unsafe equipment.

We found that the service did not have an effective recruitment and selection procedure in place to ensure staff were appropriately recruited. There were systems in place to deal with complaints including providing people who used the service with information about the process.
