Our view of the service
We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 10 June 2026.
We found the practice had met regulations.
The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
Jersey Farm Dental Practice is in St Albans, Hertfordshire and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
The practice is situated on the first floor which makes it unsuitable for people who use wheelchairs. People are informed of the restriction when they first contact the practice. Car parking spaces are available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.
The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 15 staff, of which there was the principal dentist, 4 associate dentists, 4 dental nurses (including 1 trainee dental nurse), 3 dental hygienists, 2 receptionists and a cleaner. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection.
People's experience of this service
Two weeks before our inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 20 patients. On the day of our inspection, we reviewed patient feedback from a further patient and feedback routinely collected by the practice. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.
Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
One patient told us, “I've had a consistently positive experience at Jersey Farm Dental Practice and would happily recommend it to others. Both [dentist] and the dental hygienist are excellent, professional, friendly, and always make me feel at ease... The whole team is welcoming and efficient, and the practice is always clean, well-organised, and friendly. It's clear that patient care is a real priority, and I always leave feeling well looked after. A great dental practice that I would confidently recommend to family and friends.”
Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed. One patient told us, “The dentist is thorough and takes the time to explain everything clearly, offering advice and treatment options without ever making appointments feel rushed. The dental hygienist is equally impressive. Appointments are always comfortable and thorough, and I really appreciate the practical advice on keeping my teeth and gums healthy. They are gentle, reassuring, and make what can often be an unpleasant experience much easier.”
Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.
Comments included, “I’ve always had a really positive experience with this dental practice. The staff there are very friendly and welcoming, and they have a great system in place which notifies you when your next appointment is due. I’ve always found it very easy to call up and book in an appointment when convenient for me. [Clinician], who is the dentist I see for my routine appointments, has always been very thorough and professional. He takes time to explain what he is doing and where needs extra attention.”
Patients said when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
