During a routine inspection

During the time we spent at the surgery we spoke to a number of people about the service.

We spoke with eight patients either before of after their treatment, the registered manager, the staff co-ordinator, and two dental nurse/receptionists. This was in order to gain a balanced overview of what patients experienced using this dental practice.

Patients spoke highly of the way they were treated by staff and were happy with the care and support shown to them during the course of their treatment. Comments from patients included, "It's a very friendly practice. The staff have been really good with all of us. They were brilliant with the kids, really put them at ease.'

Patients we spoke with felt they were given enough information about treatment options. They were kept informed about how their treatment was progressing throughout the process. One patient said, "The service has been absolutely fabulous. What stands out is how they explain everything. They showed me using a model of a tooth what was happening with my tooth. They put things in simple terms, and that put me at ease.'

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that ensured patient's safety and welfare. We looked at four patient records that included private and NHS patients. We spoke with the staff co-ordinator regarding the assessment of patients and looked at documents used.

During a routine inspection

During the time we spent at the surgery we spoke to a number of people about the service. They included dentist practitioners, staff, and one parent waiting for their children's treatment and two patients by telephone following the site inspection.

People we spoke to felt they were given enough information about treatment options. They were kept informed about how their treatment was progressing throughout the process. One patient said, "It's good the way they tell you all about what you are going to need doing." Staff told us, "The most important thing is that people have their treatment explained to them.' Patients told us they found all staff to be friendly and reported that they were treated with respect and dignity. A comment included, 'I have been going there for a long time and the girls are very polite and caring.'

We observed the way people were greeted at reception and saw they were spoken to with respect. Staff were polite and communicated well with patients.

Patients spoke highly of the way they were treated by staff, and were happy with the care and support shown to them during the course of their treatment. Comments from patients included, "It a very friendly practice." Also, "They have been really good when I have been here with the children, very patient."

None of the people we spoke with had any concerns about the standard of care and treatment they were receiving and people told us that they would be comfortable in raising any concerns they may have.
