All Inspections

18 December 2013

During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with four people who used the service, a dental nurse, a dentist, a receptionist and the practice manager.

We observed that care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. One person told us, 'Staff treat me with dignity and compassion'. Another said, 'I am a real coward and the dentist has really put me at ease'.

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. Staff told us they felt confident that the practice manager would escalate any concerns to the appropriate place (for example their local authority safeguarding team and CQC).

There were arrangements in place to deal with foreseeable medical emergencies and effective infection control systems were maintained to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs. One person told us they felt the practice ran smoothly and the staff were good. Another said, 'It's so good, I have recommended the dentist to other people'.

There was an effective complaints system available. Comments and complaints people made were responded to appropriately. People we spoke with told us they knew how to complain and were confident any issue they may have would be resolved to their satisfaction.
