Our view of the service

We carried out this announced off-site inspection on 9 October 2025.

Where we carry out an off-site assessment, we undertake a detailed review of the practice risk assessments, policies, staff records and other relevant documents. We gather feedback from patients, staff and stakeholders (where relevant). We carry out a remote visual assessment of the premises and have discussions with staff.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Hoghton Street Dental Practice is part of The Dental Team, a dental group provider. The practice is in Southport in Merseyside and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was ramp access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 9 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection there 30 staff. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 3 dentists, 1 dental nurse, the practice coordinator and the practice manager. The group’s compliance officer was also at the practice, supporting the team.

People's experience of this service

Prior to the inspection we reviewed all feedback shared with us and online patient comments.

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.

Patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs and said they had enough time during their appointment without feeling rushed.

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

Comments included: “The facilities are very modern and clean, which makes visits much more comfortable”, “The appointment system is well organized, though it can sometimes be tricky to get through on the phone”, “The practice location is easy to find, and the building has a nice atmosphere”, “Good communication about treatment plans and what to expect."

The practice shared this feedback with the team, and we were informed that it was reviewed. Where suggestions had been made, appropriate actions were taken. For example, in response to concerns about difficulties contacting the practice, the telephone system was reviewed, and changes were made to improve the patient experience.
