Our current view of the service

Updated 27 November 2025

We carried out this on-site inspection on 1 July 2026.

We found the practice had not met all regulations.

The practice had ineffective systems and processes to identify, assess and manage risks. We identified concerns relating to infection prevention and control, the management of hazardous substances (COSHH), fire safety, medicines management and the oversight of medical emergency medicines and equipment.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures did not always reflect current legislation as the provider had not consistently ensured that all required pre-employment checks were completed and evidenced for staff working at the practice.

We found a culture of continuous improvement. The practice was receptive to feedback and took prompt action to address issues identified during the inspection.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Staff did not manage medicines and prescriptions in line with current guidance.

The practice is in Aylesbury and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice at the rear of the building.

The practice had 3 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 8 staff, of which there were 2 dentists, 3 dental nurses, 1 receptionist and the practice manager and the practice owner. We gathered feedback from 8 staff members and spoke with all members of the practice team during the inspection.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.

The provider was not complying with Regulation 17 Good governance.

Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the inspection report.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this inspection.

People's experience of the service

Updated 27 November 2025

On the day of our inspection, we saw patient feedback from 5 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice.

Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.

Four of the 5 patients felt able to book appointments within an acceptable timescale for their needs.

Two of the 5 patients told us they did not know how to get emergency dental treatment when the practice was closed.

Patients told us they were given clear information to help them make an informed choice about their treatment and any associated costs. They were involved in decisions about their care.

Patients said when they were prescribed medicines, sufficient information was given.

The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
