During an assessment under our new approach

Date of assessment: 1 and 3 July 2025.

Marlborough Court is a care home that can accommodate for up to 83 people. They provide personal and nursing care for older people, some of whom are living with dementia. At the time of our assessment there were 82 people living at the service.

This service was registered with us on 20 December 2024, and this is the first inspection. The last rating for the service under the previous provider was ‘Good’, published 24 August 2021.

We spoke with the registered manager and the regional manager. We also spoke with 14 staff including nurses, care staff, chef, activities coordinator and housekeeping. We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us.

We found people were protected from risk of abuse and risks to people were managed well. Robust recruitment checks had taken place before staff started working at the service. There were enough staff to support people and meet their needs.

Risks to people had been assessed to ensure their needs were safely met. People had access to health care professionals when they needed them, and they received their medicines when needed. People’s care was regularly reviewed to ensure this remained effective. There were systems in place to help prevent and control infections.

Staff were trained in areas specifically related to peoples care needs and they received regular supervision from the registered manager. There was a complaints procedure in place in formats that people could understand. People had access to end-of-life care and support if it was required.

The registered manager and staff worked in partnership with health and social care providers to deliver an effective service. There were systems in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service, and any learning was identified and acted on. People using the service and staffs’ views were considered through surveys, meetings and spot checks. Staff told us they received good support from the registered manager.
