During a routine inspection

We did not speak to people at this location. People only attend to have a sample taken or to have a test such as an electrocardiogram and do not receive any other service. They have had a consultation with their own doctor or specialist prior to attending this location. The service is provided to local doctors and their patients and the results are sent to the requesting doctor. The doctor will then discuss these results with the patient.

The provider acted in accordance with people's wishes before people had any tests undertaken. Staff confirmed that they would not take a test if people were unwilling. Staff had received infection control training and the location was clean and well maintained on the day of our visit. Specimens were safely transported for testing.

Records were kept securely and could be located promptly when needed. People's complaints were fully investigated and resolved, where possible, to their satisfaction. There was information about how to make a complaint and to give feedback about the service available in the reception area.

During a routine inspection

We were not able to speak with people at this location. People only visit to have a blood or other sample taken which has been requested by their own doctor. We saw evidence from the last patient survey, completed in early 2011, that people using the service were generally satisfied with the service offered at this location. Parents were particularly satisfied with the care staff offered to their children.
