During an inspection looking at part of the service

At a previous inspection on 13 August 2013, we identified minor concerns with record keeping of key documents for the practice's radiation protection file. There were several documents including an inventory of x-ray machines, risk assessments, tests and audits that could not be located or were not up to date. The provider subsequently sent us an action plan to say how they were going to become compliant with the Health and Social Care Act (2008) Regulations 2010.

At this follow up inspection, we carried out checks to ensure the provider had met their action plan. We found the provider now had documentation within the radiation protection file in compliance with the Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999 and the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000 to ensure safe practice.

During a routine inspection

During this review we visited Penketh Dental Centre practice and spoke with nine patients.

Patients told us they were given information about their treatment options and costs and confirmed they understood what to expect before consenting to treatment.

Comments received from patients included: 'I have been a patient for over fifteen years and I've always been treated well'; "My treatment plan has always been explained to me including the cost"; 'The staff are professional and friendly'; 'The dentist I saw today was very thorough and treated me very well' and 'I've completed a survey from time to time.'

Patients spoken with told us that they were very happy with the standard of treatment and care provided. Patients also reported that all of the dental team were caring, professional and helpful.

Comments received included: 'They are very good with children'; 'I've always been able to get an appointment quickly and the treatment has always been in my opinion satisfactory'; 'I can't fault the standard of treatment here' and 'I have no complaints. I've been a patient at the practice for over twenty years.'

Patients spoken with reported that they had no complaints or concerns about the service and systems were in place to safeguard the welfare of people using the service.
