All Inspections

During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced off-site inspection on 11 July 2025.

Where we carry out an offsite assessment, we undertake a detailed review of the practice risk assessments, policies, staff records and other relevant documents. We gather feedback from patients, staff and stakeholders (where relevant). We carry out a remote visual assessment of the premises and have discussions with staff.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Mydentist – Primrose Junction - South Brent is part of Mydentist, a dental group provider. The practice is in South Brent, in Devon and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and off-street car parking, including dedicated disabled parking spaces were available at the practice.

The practice had 8 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 19 staff, of which there were 6 dentists, 1 dental hygienist, 2 dental therapists, 7 dental nurses including 2 trainees, 2 receptionists and the practice manager.

We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 2 dentists, 3 dental nurses, 1 receptionist, the practice manager and 1 of the groups’ Regulatory Officers who was also at the inspection supporting the team.

During a routine inspection

The practice had six dentists, nine dental nurses and two hygienists providing a service to approximately 12,000 people. The practice had six treatment rooms on two floors.

We spoke with six people during this visit who were attending for examination or treatment. All were positive about the service. One patient said 'It's a great service and they are absolutely brilliant with children.'

People told us that their views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care. They stated that their privacy, dignity and independence were respected.

We looked at feedback comments received from people. These showed overall satisfaction with the service, with some concerns expressed at the recent changes in magazines. One person had written 'We are very fortunate to have such a good dentist in the village.'

The provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening. Staff we spoke with had a good understanding of their safeguarding responsibilities. All of the people we spoke with expressed confidence in their dentist. One said 'X is a fab dentist who I trust, they put me at ease'.

We saw that the practice was clean, tidy and compliant with essential standards in hygiene and infection control.

The practice had checks in place to monitor the quality of care provided. We found evidence that regular audits took place.
