Caring
Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last inspection we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
People’s care records contained detailed information about the person, including what they enjoyed and what was important to them. Staff were respectful of people’s choices and involved them in their care. People felt involved and in control of their care. One person told us, “Staff are always willing to discuss anything…I am never left out of any discussions.”
Staff supported people to maintain as much independence as possible and were supporting 1 person to regain skills and strength they had previously loss due to their illness. A staff member said, “I ensure [the person] has the right aids to assist them with smaller tasks. With this way they can have some control and independence.” Another staff member told us, “I do not interfere if the [person] wants to be alone or do things on their own.” Staff were aware of when people’s lifestyle choices impacted on their independence and their ability to do things for themselves. Staff would provide additional support during these times to support the person to remain safe and well. Another staff member told us, “I focus on their own strengths - what can the person already do, and how can you build on it. Also, I try to build resilience and confidence on what will help the person feel more able to manage daily living.”
