We found peoples' diversity, values and human rights were respected. People's views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care. People who had used the service said things like, 'The staff were excellent, very friendly and supportive, kind and helpful with (relative) and taking his bag upstairs.'

We found care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way which ensured people's safety and welfare. People who used the service said things like, 'The service is excellent. Two guys brought me home, with a no fuss attitude, extremely polite and a pleasure to talk to.'

We found people who used the service and staff were protected from the risks of unsafe transport. This was because the provider had arrangements in place for the regular servicing and maintenance of the vehicles used to carry people.

The provider had taken steps to make sure people at the home were protected from staff who were unsuitable to work with vulnerable people by carrying out thorough background checks.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive. People who had used the service said things like, 'staff very polite and friendly - the staff were helpful and well presented,' and '100% service and cannot find any faults.'

During a routine inspection

People's diversity, values and human rights were respected. People had been asked in a survey carried out by Medical Services North East Ltd if they were treated with respect. Comments made by people in the survey included 'What lovely people to talk to after a medical scare'.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety. We saw an example of a very detailed care plan and risk assessment that had been completed for a patient who used the service routinely. It gave clear instructions to patient transfer staff on how to care for that person.

People who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

People were cared for by staff that were appropriately trained and supported to meet their needs.

The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who used the service.
