During a routine inspection
We asked about the process for accepting a new patient into the practice. We were shown the documents completed for each patient. These included a health assessment and medical history that was updated during subsequent visits.
Dental staff were following best practice guidelines set by the Department of Health instructing them on how to decontaminate dental instruments so that they were properly cleaned between patients.
People we spoke with were complimentary regarding dental staff who worked at the practice. People told us staff were friendly and helpful. One person told us, "The receptionist is very friendly."
We looked at the procedures in place to deal with a medical emergency. We saw the emergency medication kit held medicines that were in date and ready for use. The kit was accessible in an emergency. Staff had received training in emergency resuscitation.
A number of regular audits were conducted by the practice including audits on patient records. The results of audits were discussed at meetings and used to improve performance. This was to ensure the practice operated safely and efficiently.
