3 July 2017

During a routine inspection

We carried out this announced inspection on 3 July 2017 under Section 60 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 as part of our regulatory functions. We planned the inspection to check whether the registered provider was meeting the legal requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated regulations. The inspection was led by a CQC inspector who was supported by a specialist dental adviser.

We told the NHS England area team that we were inspecting the practice. They did not provide any information.

To get to the heart of patients’ experiences of care and treatment, we always ask the following five questions:

• Is it safe?

• Is it effective?

• Is it caring?

• Is it responsive to people’s needs?

• Is it well-led?

These questions form the framework for the areas we look at during the inspection.

Our findings were:

Are services safe?

We found that this practice was providing safe care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Are services effective?

We found that this practice was providing effective care in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Are services caring?

Are services responsive?

Are services well-led?

During a routine inspection

We saw that the practice was in a converted building on two floors with access for disabled patients on the ground floor. The practice was due for redecoration and the replacement of one of the downstairs surgeries.

We spoke to three patients who were all very satisfied with the service they had received and all said that they understood the treatment and the charges which they had paid. We observed one of the dentists treating a patient (with their consent) and noted that the dentist followed the standard examination guidance.

We saw evidence that infection control processes and procedures were followed and audited regularly.

We saw that staff were encouraged to keep up to date with their Continuous Professional Development and that the practice was supporting dentists undergoing their vocational training by assessment.
