During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site inspection with remote support from a specialist advisor on 9 October 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

New Road Dental is in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 4 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 18 staff, of which there were 2 principal dentists, 5 associate dentists, 4 dental nurses, 3 dental hygienists, 3 receptionists and the practice manager. We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 3 dentists, 3 dental nurses, and 2 receptionists. A compliance advisor also attended to support the inspection.

The service provides cosmetic treatments, some of which are not in scope of CQC regulation and are not covered in our inspection.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they were happy with the service provided and that their dignity was maintained and their privacy protected. They said that they were encouraged to ask questions and they felt that staff had the time to answer them. People reported that staff were good at discussing all their treatment options with them. One person told us, "when you're in the chair, they talk you through everything, each stage of the process" and that, "they always explain everything, the cost for both NHS and private treatment options".

We found that the practice listened to patients and care and that the treatment provided was recorded.

Overall we found that the practice had good systems in place for ensuring cleanliness and hygiene was maintained, that staff were adequately supported; there were quality monitoring arrangements in place. We discussed some minor points with the provider at the end of our inspection and were assured that these points would be addressed.
