Our current view of the service

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 2 July 2025.
We found the practice had met regulations.
The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks, including infection prevention and control.
Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.
Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.
Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.
Mydentist - Westoe Road - South Shields is part of Mydentist, a dental group provider. The practice is in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.
There was step-free access to the practice and on-street car parking spaces were available near the practice.
The practice had 8 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 27 staff, of which there were 8 dentists, 2 mentee dentists (overseas-trained, who are undergoing mentorship as part of their professional development), 10 dental nurses including 3 trainees, 1 dental therapist, 1 dental hygienist, 4 receptionists and the practice manager.
We gathered feedback from staff and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 3 dentists, 2 dental nurses, 2 receptionists and the practice manager. Two of the groups’ Regulatory Officers were also at the inspection supporting the team.

Two weeks before our on-site inspection, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We did not receive any direct patient feedback.
We were shown patient feedback, collected by the practice from May to July 2025. Of the 375 patients who responded, 97% stated they were either extremely likely or likely to recommend the practice. Comments included, “Staff are lovely”, “Very professional in everything he does. Especially for myself as I am very nervous around doctors and dentists, explain everything to you and provides excellent advice”, “Prompt caring service” and “Everything from reception to dentist 1st class.”
We reviewed online patient feedback. Overall, patients expressed high levels of satisfaction with the treatment they received. The practice responded to all online feedback and where concerns were raised, they advised the individual to contact them directly. Comments included: “From the reception staff to dental assistant to the dentist I received excellent care. Everyone was friendly and reassuring”, “Always exceptional service, from reception, dental assistant and dentist. A good selection of helpful products on sale too, should you need to purchase something to improve your dental health. A calming atmosphere also upon your visit”, “This is a friendly dentist who really look after you they are efficient and skilled I am pleased that they look after me would not want to go anywhere else.”
The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken.
