Date of assessment: 5 November to 28 November 2025. The reason for the assessment was to check whether the provider had made improvements following the previous inspection and to follow up on a breach of regulation relating to safe care and treatment. Whitehaven Care home is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care to up to 23 people. The service provides support to older people, people with a physical disability, sensory impairment, dementia and mental health conditions.
The management of people’s medicines had improved. Overall, people received their medicines as prescribed, and clear information was available for staff on how medicines should be administered, including guidance for ‘as required’ (PRN) medicines. However, some risks were not fully documented in care plans, such as those relating to medicines used for thinning blood. The registered manager took immediate action to address this during the inspection.
Environmental risks were assessed and monitored regularly. The home was clean, and infection control risks were managed effectively.Care plans contained clear information about how people needed to be helped.
Staff fed back positively about the manager and were happy with the support and training provided. One health professional said that staff were kind, caring and responsive to their requests and clinical recommendations.
Sufficient improvements had been made, and the service was no longer in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment.
