During an inspection looking at part of the service

When we inspected Weston Family Practice Limited on 9 May 2013, we identified that improvements needed to be made to the way that staff were supported to identify and meet their learning and development needs. We completed this inspection to see if the required improvements had been made.

During this inspection we spoke with a member of staff, the practice manager and the registered manager. We did not speak with people who used the service, as our inspection focussed on looking to see if staff were supported appropriately.

We saw that improvements had been made, and systems were now in place to support staff and meet their learning and development needs.

During a routine inspection

Our inspection was arranged two days in advance. This was to ensure that we had time to see and speak to staff working at the practice, as well as people registered with the service.

We spoke with four people who used the service and three members of staff. People told us they were happy with the care and treatment provided. One person said, 'I am really pleased with it here. Everything is great'. Another person said, 'I've no problems with any of the work I've had done here. I'd recommend it to other people'.

People told us they were involved in the planning of their treatment and were treated with care and respect. We observed people being communicated with in a professional and friendly manner.

Care and treatment was based upon clinical guidelines and people were protected from risks because appropriate assessments and checks had been completed.

During our inspection the practice appeared clean and tidy. We observed staff following policies and procedures to protect people from the risks associated with infections.

Staff were registered with their professional body and completed the required training to maintain their registration, however they were not always supported to identify and work towards their development needs. Systems were not in place to support and protect staff to share concerns about poor practice.

The provider had some systems in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service. These systems were used to improve the service.
