Our current view of the service

Date of Assessment: 9 December 2025 to 9 January 2026. The service is a care home with nursing providing support to males aged 18 years and above living with the experience of dementia, nursing needs, mental health conditions (including acquired brain injuries) and physical disabilities. The provider had an exceptional learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes.

People were involved in assessments of their needs. Staff reviewed assessments taking account of people’s communication, personal and health needs. Care was based on latest evidence and good practice. People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when moving services. They monitored people’s health to support healthy living. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. Staff involved relatives of people who took decisions on their behalf, and in their best interests, where they did not have capacity.

People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected people’s privacy and dignity, they treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choices in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way. The provider supported staff wellbeing.

People were involved in decisions about their care. Staff provided information people could understand. People knew how to give feedback and were confident the provider took it seriously and acted on it. The service was easy to access and worked to eliminate discrimination. People received fair and equal care and treatment. Staff worked to reduce health and care inequalities through training and feedback. People were involved in planning their care and understood options around choosing to withdraw or not receive care.

Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. People with protected characteristics felt supported. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Managers worked with the local community to deliver the best possible care and were receptive to new ideas. There was a culture of continuous improvement with staff given time and resources to try new ideas.

People's experience of the service

People were extremely positive about the quality of their care. They felt safe and were fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. People said they received high quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. Comments from people included, “I am happy here, it’s a good place to be, “I feel safe and well supported,” “The staff know us well and they make us all feel comfortable.” Several people described how staff treated them kindly and made sure any personal care was done sensitively, preserving their privacy and dignity. They also said the service provided lots of interesting activities to keep people physically and mentally active. Some people because of their conditions were unable to tell us about their experience. Throughout the inspection we observed staff provided sensitive and appropriate care to people. We saw people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them. The chef told us how they supported people with their dietary needs. They said they did this by having regular talks with people and by providing appropriate menu choices for people. People felt able to complain and were confident action would be taken and improvements would be made. People knew staff and leaders well. Comments from people included, “I know all of the staff, they stay working here and they are lovely”, “It’s a wonderful staff group. They know how to help us. “It really feels like home here.”
