During a routine inspection

As part of our review we spoke with six people who used the dental practice to gain their experiences of the service they received. People we spoke with included people who were nervous, had received extensive treatment, had a mobility difficulty, were new to the practice, or had attended the practice for over a number of years.

Feedback gained was extremely positive. Everybody we spoke with said they were 'very' satisfied with the service they had received and would 'definitely' recommend the dental practice to their family and friends. One person, who had received extensive treatment, told us, 'They are heaven, it's absolutely fantastic and the quality of dentistry is exceptional. I'm so lucky to have a dentist who is such a perfectionist'. Another person said, 'They have absolutely come on leaps and bounds and heavily invested in the latest technology. They are very very good and offer an excellent all round service, it's fantastic'.

People told us they were always seen on time and said all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They said they were given lots of advice about their treatment options and given time to consider these. They told us their check-ups were thorough and their treatment 'excellent'. If people were unsure about their treatment options or wanted more advice they were able to meet with the Treatment Co-ordinator to discuss their options further to help them make an informed decision about their treatment.

People said they received a copy of their treatment plan and an estimate of charges. People who experienced dental pain told us they were seen quickly, diagnostic tests such as X-rays were done and no invasive dentistry was undertaken to relieve them from their pain. One person said they were prescribed a course of antibiotics and their problems were quickly resolved. People told us they had completed a health questionnaire and were regularly asked about any changes to their health before receiving any treatment. People who were nervous told us they were very much made to feel at ease.

People we spoke with expressed no concerns in relation to hygiene and infection prevention and control. They confirmed that clinical staff always wore personal protective clothing such as gloves and eye protection when carrying out treatment.

We received information from Shropshire PCT who visited the practice on 1 December 2011 to undertake an infection prevention and control audit. They told us the practice received and overall score of 100%. They reported the practice was compliant with good practice, had a compliant decontamination room and excellent infection control policies and procedures.
