Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This is the first assessment for this newly registered service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. People and relatives said staff were caring and kind, and that they had professional but close relationships with staff. One person said, “I enjoy the company and we have a laugh.” Staff described a positive culture that promoted kindness. One member of staff said, “I've had a great experience working here, no complaints at all.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Staff were knowledgeable about people’s individual support needs and choices, which were also reflected in care records. One member of staff said, “We know the people we support well. We know if something is wrong or has changed.”

Independence, choice and control

Score: 2

The provider did not always promote people’s independence, choice and control. Staffing teams had not always been consistent, meaning people and relatives did not always feel in control of their care. One person said, “There’s that many (staff), I can’t remember their names.” The provider had identified this issue and was taking steps to address it and improve the service.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff told us they felt valued and that their wellbeing was supported, including regular contact with leaders of the service. One member of staff told us, “They're all very understanding, they sort anything you need out for you.”
