All Inspections

30 April 2013

During a routine inspection

People using the service told us that they were given the information they needed about their transportation. They said that the staff were great and treated them with dignity and respect.

Records on each person were held but some lacked detail and policy guidance was incomplete and did not fully protect people.

People were protected from abuse because staff members had been trained and showed us that they knew how to recognise, prevent and report suspected or actual incidents of abuse.

Recruitment checks were carried out on staff members prior to their starting work to ensure that they were suitable to work as part of the ambulance staff team.

Staff members were trained and were supported to provide an appropriate standard of transportation through increased supervision.

People told us that they were happy with the service provided but were not offered written information on how to make a complaint.

The records and policies, procedures and guidance were not all complete and did not fully protect people from receiving inappropriate care and transportation.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We found that the provider had improved cleaning procedures and staff had received training in infection prevention and control. The storage of linen and cleaning equipment had improved and hand washing facilities were in line with current guidelines.

Vehicles were being checked each day to ensure they were clean, well stocked and fit for use. A process was in place to check the roadworthiness of each vehicle although evidence for one privately owned vehicle was still being sought.

Items of equipment used for people were being regularly checked to ensure their safe use.

Since the previous visit, no staff had been recruited so we were unable to check recruitment procedures used. However all Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks had been renewed for staff and a recruitment policy was in place.

We found that most staff had completed essential training although since our last visit no further progress had been made to recommence staff meetings, supervision of staff (or one to one meetings) and for completing performance appraisals.

There was evidence that learning from incidents took place and people who use the service were asked for their views when it was possible to do so.

11 July 2012

During an inspection in response to concerns

We were unable to speak with people who used the service as they do not generally visit the ambulance stations and no services were being provided at the time of our visit. We did ask the provider to share any feedback they had received from people who had used the service. While this was made available to us the amount of information was small and therefore of limited value.
