During an inspection looking at part of the service

During this visit we met with the practice manager, the control of infection lead and one of the dentists. We examined relevant records. We did not speak with patients. It was not necessary to do so due to the nature of our visit.

We looked at one area, infection control, that had been found non-compliant during the last inspection in January 2013.

We saw that the practice had put in place effective systems to reduce the risk and spread of infection. For example, audits in accordance with Department of Health guidance on decontamination had taken place and were scheduled for the future.

During a routine inspection

The five patients we spoke to were all very happy with the service they received and felt that the staff were welcoming and helpful. They thought that the practice was maintained in a clean state and they saw that the staff always wore gloves and protective clothing. The patients told us that they were clear in the treatment options offered and the costs involved.

We found that the dentists follow national guidelines in the prescribing of treatment and by carrying out full oral health risk assessments are able to plan the treatment accordingly.

The staff were well informed about the need for confidentiality and were supported in their day to day work.
