All Inspections

During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our last inspection on 13 December 2013 we found that the provider was non-compliant in one of the outcome areas. This was because patients were not provided with written information about how much their treatment would cost. This meant that patients may not always know how much they were expected to pay.

We asked the provider to send us an action plan outlining the steps they planned to take in order to meet the regulations. This was received on 22 January 2013.

During this inspection we spoke with the receptionist and the dental nurse. We looked at three patient records. We found that the provider now had arrangements in place to ensure that patients were provided with written information about the cost of their treatment. This meant patients knew how much they would be expected to pay.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with six patients who used the service. They were all happy with the care and treatment that they received. They described the practice as, "Very good" and "Excellent." They all said that the staff were friendly and polite.

All of the patients we spoke with said the dentist clearly explained their care and the treatment choices available to them. They said they felt involved in making decisions about their care. Most of them said that the dentist told them how much their treatment would cost. However, five out the six patients we spoke with said they had not received a written treatment plan that outlined the costs. This meant that patients may not always know how much they were expected to pay.

The practice had policies and procedures in place to safeguard children and vulnerable adults. The staff we spoke with were aware of their roles and responsibilities in relation to this. This meant that patients who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse.

The practice had a system in place for controlling the risk of infection. All of the patients we spoke with said they thought the practice provided a clean and hygienic environment.
