We found that a robust recruitment policy had been implemented by the provider to ensure that suitably trained and qualified staff are employed.

Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) checks had been carried out on all staff.

An external provider had been commissioned to collect pre-employment information.

During a routine inspection

During this inspection visit we spoke with two dentists, one dental nurse, two trainee dental nurses and five people using the service. All of the patients we spoke with told us they were pleased with the quality of their care and treatment. One patient said, "I have been coming here for over 10 years and I can't fault it at all. The staff are excellent, they are all very approachable." Another patient told us, "my [relative] and I have been registered here for three years. It's easy to get an appointment and I am given choices about my care. I've moved home recently but kept this dentist as I'm happy with everything." A third patient said, "I'm impressed, they do a fantastic job. They have interested my child in cleaning their teeth, which is so good."

Patients told us the practice always appeared clean and we found there were effective infection control practices in place.

The provider had not carried out sufficient staff recruitment checks to make sure people using the service received care and treatment from safely appointed staff.

Information was available about how to make a complaint and patients told us they were confident that the practice would take any complaints seriously.
