During a routine inspection

We spoke with four patients who used the service. They were all happy with the care and treatment they received and the way in which it was delivered. One patient told us, "The staff are very good and they really know what they're doing".

We saw before patients received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. We noted patients' verbal and written consent was obtained before care and treatment was undertaken. Patients' views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their treatment. Patients who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the practice had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

The care and treatment we saw was safe and appropriate. Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure patients' safety and welfare. There were arrangements and equipment in place to deal with medical emergencies. We saw there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. We also found systems were in place for patients and relatives to make a complaint about the service if necessary.

Patients said that they were very satisfied with the service provided by the practice. They said the dentist and staff were very friendly and they liked the way in which staff responded positively to any questions they asked.

All the patients spoken with said that they had been provided with information about the treatment options available to them. They had discussed these with the dentist. They also said that the costs of treatment had been explained to them. This would then be confirmed in a letter to them following the consultation.

Patients considered their dignity and privacy had been respected at all times. They said the premises were always clean and that staff washed their hands. Patients said they felt safe in the hands of staff at the practice.
