During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site inspection on 3 September 2025.

We found the practice had met regulations.

The practice had effective systems to identify and manage risks.

Staff had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their roles.

Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement.

Staff provided care and treatment in line with current guidance. They treated patients with dignity and respect and ensured access to care, support, and treatment when required.

Smile Design Centre Limited is in Leicester and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children.

There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces available, including dedicated parking for disabled people, near the practice.

The practice had 5 treatment rooms. At the time of our inspection, there was a total of 17 staff, of which there were 6 dentists (including 1 foundation dentist), 7 dental nurses (including 4 trainee dental nurses), 1 dental therapist, 2 receptionists and the practice manager. We gathered feedback and spoke to a range of staff during our inspection, including 1 dentist, 2 dental nurses and the practice manager.

During a routine inspection

Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. We spoke with a dentist about how they obtained the consent of people who used the service. We were told about the process of describing treatment options that were available to people and how to present this in a way the person understood.

We spoke with two people who had received treatment at the time of our visit. We asked them about the care and treatment they had received. Comments included: - "I know just what's happening' and 'they're all very pleasant, I don't feel fearful at all'.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. We reviewed the infection prevention and decontamination policies and found them to be up to date and comprehensive with responsibilities clearly defined.

We found there were effective recruitment and selection processes in place and staff had access to regular training.

The provider had an effective quality assurance system to monitor the quality of service provided.

20 December 2011

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people using the service. They told us they were generally satisfied with the service. They thought the premises was clean and dental staff took action to reduce the risk of infection.

One person commented: "Give good advice. Does things very perfectly." They told us that the dentist was gentle. They travelled across Leicester to use this service, even though there were services closer to their home. Another person told us they had been unhappy with the attitude of a dentist. They felt their concern had been dealt with appropriately and they had since been given appointments with a different dentist.
